Mahindra & Mahindra Group

Battista is designed and developed by the one of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group Itly based company Pininfarina Automobili. Mahindra and Mahindra Group of India acquired the Itly based automotive design company Pininfarina Spa on 14th December 2015 and started a new division of it in 2018 – Automobili Pininfarina. Automobili Pininfarina made this hyper electric car and name it on the person who started the Pininfarina in 1930.

The story behind the car name ‘Battista‘:
The Battista, takes the name of Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, the founder of Pininfarina. “Pinin” was the nickname of Battista Farina which means ‘Youngest Brother’. So the company name called Pininfarina.

First appearance of the car:
Battista was 1st shown to only few selected personalities from all over the world on Pebble Beach, California in Aug-2018 but it’s revailed for public in Geneva International Motor Show-2018. In GIMS-2018 this car became the point of attraction for all the visitors and media. Mr. Anand Mahindra and Automobili Pininfarina team unveiled the car on 4th March-2019. This type of stylish and high performance car has never been made. Battista is not only the most powerful Italian sports car ever created, it also combines design purity, breathtaking beauty and guaranteed rarity like nothing before it.

Design & Shape:

Design Director – Luca Borgogno talked about the design of the Battista. Battista’s line and curves are kept like “Ferrari Modulo“. The Ferrari 512S Modulo was a concept sports car designed by Paolo Martin of the Italian carozzeria Pininfarina, unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show.

To make the car body lighter and to compensate the heavy battery and motor weight company has used carbon fiber made monocoque chassis. Which makes it 10 times stronger and 5 times lighter than the steel used in regular production vehicles.

Car booking and its Cost:
Well, this going to be produced in only limited quantity of only 150 numbers and will be sold all over the world. From late 2020 just 50 Battistas are estimated to be available in Europe, 50 in North America and 50 in the Middle East and Asia markets, with the 2million euros hypercar available to order through a small network of the specialist luxury car and hypercar retailers. It is said that half of the numbers are already booked during it’s 1st appearance at Pebble Beach California. In terms of Indian currency, the cost of the car will be approx 17 Crores (exclusive all the taxes).

Story behind the scene:
Automobili Pininfarina had expertise into the design of the car but to build a super high-performance car they had required core expertise into the power train system and integration division of the car. To fulfil this requirement they hired the industry experts from all over the world. Along with this if you see the performance data of Battista then it will very likely match with the Rimac C_TWO concept car. Rimac Automobili had showcased a concept car name Rimac C_TWO during the Geneva International Motor Show 2018. So, Automobili Pininfarina uses Rimac C_TWO power train technology to make the Battista. Battista inherits approx 40 to 50% of its technology from Rimac C_TWO concept car.

Rimac C_TWO specification:

Presented at Geneva Motor Show-2018.

4 motors and 4 gearboxes. i.e- at every wheel
Rear gearbox: double speed
Front gearbox: single speed
Battery pack of Battista is also from Rimac Automobili.

My Words:

Battista is a birth of real beauty. Where many people are doubting on the power of electic car at the same place this car defines the future of electric car with its unmatchable performance. Battista is designed outside of the Mahindra eco system but hopfully we expect that that advance technology will enrich the Indian electric vehicle market also.
Thanks!
