More about the Tata Motors. The Parent Company in Brief

Tata Motors Ltd. is part of the USD 180 billion Tata Group. Its shares are listed on the BSE (scrip code 544569) and the NSE (TMCV). It describes itself as India’s largest manufacturer of utility vehicles, pick-ups, trucks and buses.

The company was earlier called TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd. Under a Composite Scheme of Arrangement sanctioned by the NCLT Mumbai Bench, its name changed to Tata Motors Limited, effective 29 October 2025. Its brand promise is “Better Always”, and it cites eight decades of leadership behind the combined enterprise.

What Is Iveco Group? The Subsidiary and Its Five Brands

Iveco Group N.V. (EXM: IVG) is now a subsidiary of Tata Motors. Built on Italian heritage, it operates through five brands:

  • IVECO: heavy, medium and light-duty trucks
  • FPT: advanced powertrains for agriculture, construction, marine, power generation and commercial vehicles
  • IVECO BUS and HEULIEZ: mass transit, premium bus and coach solutions
  • IVECO CAPITAL: the financing arm supporting the group

Iveco Group employs 33,000 people and operates 16 industrial sites and 22 R&D centres. It will remain headquartered in Turin, Italy, and its brands, teams and industrial footprint will retain their distinct identities.

Powertrain Range: From Combustion to Battery-Electric and Hydrogen

The group says its powertrain capabilities now span the full spectrum. These include conventional and established combustion technologies, natural gas, battery-electric, hydrogen and other emerging zero and low-emission solutions.

That breadth, the companies say, supports multiple pathways to decarbonisation, since customer needs and market realities differ. They also point to shared strengths in advanced powertrains, alternative energy, software, connected technologies and manufacturing.

How the Two Vehicle Portfolios Complement Each Other

Tata Motors’ cargo range runs from below 1 tonne to 55 tonnes. Its mass-mobility range covers 10-seater to 51-seater vehicles. Its strength lies in India and the high-growth markets of Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

Iveco Group adds light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, along with city and intercity buses. It holds strong positions in Europe and Latin America, and FPT contributes powertrains for on-road, off-road, marine and power-generation uses.

The companies say customers gain a wider choice of vehicles, technologies and powertrain solutions. They also expect greater scale to bring innovation to market faster and more competitively.

What Changes for Customers, Dealers and Suppliers

The companies call the transition seamless. Existing customer contracts, dealer and supplier relationships, warranties, aftermarket commitments and captive financing solutions continue unchanged. The same dedicated teams and networks will support them.

Tata Motors will support Iveco Group’s existing strategy and investment plans. The stated immediate priority is continuity.

What Leadership Said About the Combination

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Iveco Group, said the group will invest for the long term and let ideas and capabilities flow in both directions. He framed the goal as mobility that is safer, smarter, more connected and more sustainable.

Girish Wagh, MD & CEO of Tata Motors, said the aim is to combine strengths in engineering, new-age technologies, sourcing, distribution and customer networks. Olof Persson, CEO of Iveco Group, called it a defining moment and said Iveco begins this chapter with its brands, people and industrial heritage intact.

What This Means for the Future of Commercial Mobility

Tata Motors and Iveco Group leaders at the Turin announcement of their combined global commercial vehicle enterprise, ranked fourth largest worldwide.

Beyond continuity, the longer-term opportunity is to accelerate innovation, expand customer choice and advance cleaner, safer and more intelligent mobility. The companies also expect a two-way flow of engineering, technology and expertise across their 73,000+ people. They add that suppliers, dealers and distributors get a larger canvas to grow on.

Tata Motors’ newsroom also reported commercial vehicle sales of 47,652 units in October 2026, up 27% year on year. It separately announced that Amazon will deploy 3,000 electric trucks in its transportation network in India.
